Fujifilm acquires the U.S. RIS manufacturer Empiric to expand its business in the field of medical IT systems

December 2, 2008

FUJIFILM Corporation (President and CEO: Shigetaka Komori) has acquired, through its U.S. sales subsidiary FUJIFILM Medical Systems USA, Inc., all issued shares of the U.S. manufacturer of radiology information systems (RIS)*1, Empiric Systems, LLC (headquartered in North Carolina, United States; hereinafter "Empiric"). Empiric will make a fresh start as a 100% subsidiary of the Fujifilm Group.
Focusing on its strategic product SYNAPSE*2, radiology-department's PACS*3having leading market share in Japan, Fujifilm has been globally pursuing, since 2007, the expansion of its medical IT system business to provide comprehensive hospital solutions covering IT systems for non-radiology departments as well. Some of the recent examples are; acquisition of ProSolv (the U.S. manufacturer of medical imaging & information systems for the cardiovascular department), ownership transfer of Sumitomo Computer Systems Corporation's IT system business in endoscopy, ultrasound and pathology departments, and re-establishment of Tianjian (China's leading manufacturer of HIS (Hospital Information System) and RIS) as a Fujifilm group company.
In the U.S. market, Fujifilm forged sales partnership with Empiric in 2006 to combine SYNAPSE and Empiric's RIS product into a seamless-operational solution for sales expansion. Empiric's RIS product is, similarly to SYNAPSE, a web-based application that are scalable and easy to maintain, as all the application software is installed on the server. It is rated highly among users because of its simplicity in initial introduction / updating, advanced expandability, and compatibility with other web-based systems.
The latest acquisition of Empiric will accelerate the integration of the two companies' systems, and reinforce competitiveness in the U.S. market, where PACS and RIS are increasingly offered as integrated solutions. Tapping into its appeal as a web-based application, Fujifilm will actively explore business in the fields of growth-anticipated remote diagnostic imaging over the Internet, and ASP services for RIS / PACS solutions, in a bid to expand its market share. Efforts for sales expansion will go beyond the United States to cover the medical IT system markets of Britain, Australia, Middle East and Israel.
From the basis of the Corporate Philosophy of "using leading-edge, proprietary technologies to help enhance the quality of life of people," Fujifilm has drawn up a growth strategy that defines the Medical & Life Science Business as one of the priority areas, substantially reinforcing capital investments and R&D, and launching aggressive M&A for business expansion.
Through achieving growth in the medical field, Fujifilm will contribute to improve healthcare quality and efficiency, promote healthier lives for people, and to further enhance quality of life. Established in 2001Location of HQ: Morrisville, North Carolina, United StatesBusiness description: Developing, marketing and providing maintenance services for radiology information systems (RIS)

Creative Shipping Vado HD Pocket Cam

The new 720p-capable camera includes an HDMI cable for 1080i output.

December 09, 2008 by Rachel Cericola
With plenty of holiday shopping time to spare, Creative has started shipping its Vado HD Pocket Video Cam.
The super-thin Vado HD is small enough to stuff stockings, promising 720p HD quality images at the touch of a button. However, Creative says that you can output to 1080i, with the included HDMI cable. Included? That has to be a first.
Creative says that the rechargeable battery should provide two hours of recording and/or playback. Other features include a 2-inch color LCD screen and 8GB of memory, which should hold about two hours of high-def video. Plug the unit into your PC’s USB port, and you can store and share videos with ease. The unit comes with Vado Central software, which includes YouTube or Box.net buttons for one-touch uploads.
The Vado HD is selling now through Creative and Amazon.com. It retails for $230. Other accessories you can add under the tree include a storage pouch ($15), extra batteries ($15 each), a power adapter with charger station ($30), and an underwater diving pouch ($30).

Tell me what I am--- a blind joke

A snake and a rabbit were racing along a pair of intersecting forest pathways one day, when they collided at the intersection. They immediately began to argue with one another as to who was at fault for the mishap. When the snake remarked that he had been blind since birth, and thus should be given additional leeway, the rabbit said that he, too, had been blind since birth. The two animals then forgot about the collision and began commiserating concerning the problems of being blind. The snake said that his greatest regret was the loss of his identity. He had never been able to see his reflection in the water, and for that reason did not know exactly what he looked like, or even what he was. The rabbit declared that he had the same problem. Seeing a way that they could help each other, the rabbit proposed that one feel the other from head to toe, and then try to describe what the other animal was. The snake agreed, and started by winding himself around the rabbit. After a few moments, he announced, "You've got very soft, fuzzy fur, long ears, big rear feet, and a little fuzzy ball for a tail. I think that you must be a bunny rabbit!" The rabbit was much relieved to find his identity, and proceeded to return the favor to the snake. After feeling about the snake's body for a few minutes, he asserted, "Well, you're scaly, you're slimy, you've got beady little eyes, you squirm and slither all the time, and you've got a forked tongue. I think you're a lawyer!"

The Most Expensive The LAICA

I know this one camera is best 4 You Professional.
Laica’s digital cameras, other than the DMR and the M8, are produced in Japan by Panasonic. While the earliest Laica digital cameras were rebranded Fujifilm models, all current Laica digital cameras except the R8/R9 Digital Modul-R and M8 are rebranded versions of Panasonic’s Lumix digital cameras.

The LAICA DIGILUX 3 sets a new standard in the digital mirror reflex camera segment: traditional operating controls and highly modern technical equipment are united with classical values such as precision, outstanding picture quality and a clear formal languageLaica also produced a series of SLR (single-lens reflex) cameras beginning with the Laicaflex in 1964, followed by the Laicaflex SL and the Laicaflex SL2. Each of the Laicaflex models featured a mechanical shutter and electronic lightmeter, initially with non-TTL (”through-the-lens”) light-metering, but with TTL metering from the SL onwards. The Laicaflexes were followed by the Laica R series, starting with the R3, which were initially made in collaboration with the Minolta Corporation. All R-series SLRs have an electronic shutter, except for the all-mechanical R6, whose only electronic part is the lightmeter.
